San Carlos is a small village within the port city of Guaymas, in the Mexican state of Sonora. Located on the shore of the Sea of Cortez, San Carlos is known the world over for its pristine white sandy beaches and warm, crystal clear water, making it a major diving destination. The striking features of its landscape – rugged desert mountains falling away to sparkling blue seas – also provide opportunities for a wide range of activities, from hiking the iconic Tetakawi Hill to fishing, windsurfing, or simply enjoying a breathtaking sunset.
Once home to the indigenous Guaimas tribes, San Carlos was settled by Spanish ranchers in the 1500s, and later became an important port city. San Carlos today contains many elegant resorts offering first-class amenities and conveniences, while at the same time retaining the charm and tranquility of a small village.
